Battle of The Chefs Serves Up Fun at The Sharon

For one day in The Villages®, Florida – stovetops, refrigerators, pots, pans, pantries, sous chefs, and fryers took centerstage at The Sharon Performing Arts Center, as Evergreen Wellness™ hosted its first Battle of The Chefs live event.

Evergreen Wellness staged this entertaining Chefs “food fight” as a way to bring attention to the importance of eating well.

The Food Network-inspired show pitted two well-known Chefs in The Villages in a spatula-to-spatula, race-the-clock contest to determine the winning Chef.

Participants included RedSauce Executive Chef Kevin Robinson …

… and Hemingway’s Head Chef Eric Reed.

Setting the Stage

Accompanied by theatrical stage lighting, pulse-pounding music, and an ever-present ticking clock to add to the tension, Battle of The Chefs show host Bill Green, a long-time on-air personality for HSN, emceed the culinary showdown. Expert Chef “JT” Jonathan Tubby served as a guest judge along with three lucky audience members at each of the program’s two showtimes.

Each show featured an appetizer round (20 minutes) and an entrée round (30 minutes), interspersed with video clips featuring the Chefs and their respective restaurants to profile the competitors.

And The Winner is …!

Judging was tight in the first show, with Chef Kevin taking a narrow victory – while there was a split decision in the second show, with Eric Reed winning the appetizer round and Kevin Robinson winning the entrée round. Points were added up from both shows and Chef Kevin Robinson was the declared the overall winner.

And Kids Came Away Winners, Too!

Prior to the competition, each participating Chef was asked to name a charity significant to them. Chef Kevin chose No Kid Hungry and Chef Eric chose Autism Speaks. Evergreen Wellness was delighted to make a $500 contribution to each of these organizations on their behalf. To learn more about these worthwhile causes, or to offer support of your own, please visit No Kid Hungry and Autism Speaks.

Will there be a Battle of The Chefs 2?

“We’re kicking that thought around,” said John Parrish, Vice President of Creative Services for Evergreen Wellness. “We had a great response from attendees. Perhaps there will be a rematch. Or maybe Kevin can defend his title against someone new. Whatever we decide, we’re sure it’ll make for delicious entertainment.”
