Portion size is very important in a healthy diet. Keeping portions small and having a balance of food groups makes all the difference!

When it comes down to portion control, most of us have measuring cups at home. We don’t often use them.
I always tell people when you’re first getting started to measure out what you’re putting in your on your plate or in your bowl. It gives you a good idea of where you’re starting. Sometimes you might think, “Well, I’m having about a cup of cereal.” But by the time you measure it, you’re having way more than that.
So, one good thing I always tell people is for your meat portion or protein portion, three ounces is about the size of a deck of cards or about the size of a woman’s palm. So, when you’re out to eat and you’re ordering your chicken or your steak, you want to have a portion about that size.
There’s a bunch of different other tools you can use as far as a tablespoon being about the size of your thumb. About a half of a cup is about a fistful. So, there’s different tools you can use that way.
